"Is Out of School Out of Bounds? Cyberbullying & School Intervention - where to draw the line?"

College Goal Sunday will take place on Sunday, January 30, 2011 from 1:30pm to 4:30pm at thirteen different school/university sites. This event will allow students and parents to talk to experts and get in-depth help filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form (FAFSA). Additionally, students and parents will be given information regarding state and federal aid programs that are available.

This will be a very informative evening on assisting you on how to file for both Federal and School Financial Aid for your student who will be attending any post secondary educational program.

The Italian Fraternal Society is offering scholarships to high school seniors who are the child, grandchild or great grandchild of an IFS member.
The student must be accepted to a four year college or university.
The application must be submitted to the Scholarship Chairman by MARCH 31, 2011.

The CAEOP Annual Scholarship will be awarded to one high school senior who desire to continue their educational career in the field of business.
This scholarship is worth $750.00 to the winner.

The U.S. Department of Education has announced a limited number of scholarships under the Robert C. Byrd Scholarship program.
This Scholarship is for high school seniors who rank in the top 2% of their junior year class or those who achieve a score of 2100 or better on the SAT or a 32 or better on the ACT.
This highly competitive scholarship is anticipated to be $1,500 per student who receives this award.
All applications must be received by April 1, 2011.

On Thursday, January 6th from 7-9pm, the BHS School Counseling Department will be hosting its Annual Financial Aid Evening. Carolyn Karno, a former financial aid representative from the Connecticut Student Loan Foundation and now working independently as a consultant for Education Funding Strategies will be presenting a very informative program to assist parents with understanding the Financial Aid Process and filling out the FAFSA and CSS Profile forms.

In order to ease the transition between the era of paper progress reports and our new paperless Student Information System, quarter 2 Progress Reports will be printed and distributed to all students at BHS later this week. This is a change from previous information provided by the District and the BHS website. The distribution date is Thu. 12/16. This will be the "last" time that progress reports will be printed for all students. (Paper Reports may still be printed "on request")

Attention Seniors: A mandatory meeting for all seniors, to record cap & gown measurements and provide important information for graduation 2011, will be held in the Robert Long Auditorium this Thursday, December 16, 2010 starting at 7:25 a.m. All seniors are asked to attend this important meeting, to provide the exact spelling and form of their name, as it will appear on their diploma (and also in the graduation program). Parents and students should agree as to whether middle names, etc., are used. We encourage families of seniors to discuss this before the December 16th meeting.

The Department of Athletics will sponsor a presentation on Steroids to all BHS athletes on Wed. Dec. 8 at 1:00 PM in the Gibney Gymnasium. This presentation is open to all athletes of Berlin High School, not just those competing in the current season.

The BHS Winter Choral Concert has been re-scheduled for Wednesday, December 8. It will be held in the auditorium at 7:00 pm. The Chorus, Madrigal Singers, Jazz Choir, Advanced Vocal class and the newly formed Women's Choir will all be featured. The concert was previously scheduled for December 15.
