Athletic Department Steroids Assembly

 The Department of Athletics will sponsor a presentation on Steroids to all BHS athletes on Wed. Dec. 8 at 1:00 PM in the Gibney Gymnasium.  This presentation is open to all athletes of Berlin High School, not just those competing in the current season.

WINTER CHORAL CONCERT RE-SCHEDULED!

The BHS Winter Choral Concert has been re-scheduled for Wednesday, December 8.  It will be held in the auditorium at 7:00 pm.  The Chorus, Madrigal Singers, Jazz Choir, Advanced Vocal class and the newly formed Women's Choir will all be featured.  The concert was previously scheduled for December 15.

Qrt 2 Progress Reports Available

 Printed progress reports will NOT be distributed to students for Quarter 2.  This new procedure was outlined in the letter from the Asst. Superintendent that was included with the Quarter 1 report cards.  As part of BPS' new online Student Information program, parents should check their student's progress through the online Parent Portal of the new Student Information System.  Any parent without an account, on the Parent Portal, can request a printed copy be sent to them by contacting the Main Office.  Information on creating an account is available in the Left Sidebar of this page - by clicking the "Account Creation Instructions" item.

BHS Band Members selected Regional Honors Bands

The following students were selected by the Connecticut Music Educators Association to participate in the Northern Regional Honor Band:
Tom deRito (Alto Sax)
James Kissane (Trumpet)
Patrick Lomaglio (Trombone)
Ian Tamburini (Clarinet)
Natalie VonAchen (Bassoon)
All New England Honor Band:
Lauren Erickson (Alto Sax), James Kissane (Trumpet)

The candidates spend 6 months preparing solos, scales, and arpeggios for an audition that only lasts 10 minutes!  In many cases, they are auditioning against scores of other students for a place in the group.   

Congratulations to Lauren Erickson (Alto Sax) and James Kissane (Trumpet) for their selection and participation in the All New England Honor Band.   Lauren and James recently traveled to Plymouth, New Hampshire to join New England's best musicians for a day-long clinic and concert.

Please make sure you are checking the scholarship information on Naviance, which you can also access under  "Students" in the Main Menu of the BHS web site, and in the Guidance Suite in our "Blue Bucket".  Scholarship information is continuosly updated and you may be eligible for several scholarships so check regularly.   If you have any questions, please see your counselor or Mrs. Ramirez.

The National Co-op Scholarship Program

Attention Seniors:

The National Commission for Cooperative Education and its Partner Institutions are pleased to announce and sponsor the 9th Annual National Co-op Scholarship Program.  The Commission will award 155 Merit co-op scholarships of $6000.00 each and they are renewable.  These scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors who plan to participate in college cooperative education at one of the Partner Institutions.

To be eligible for the scholarship students must apply, have a 3.5 GPA, and be accepted to one of the seven NCCE Partner Institutions listed for the 2011-2012  school year:

Drexel University

Johnson & Wales

Kettering University

Rochester Institute of Technology

University of Cincinnati

The University of Toledo

Wentworth Institute of Technology

Scholarship applications can be completed online by going to www.co-op.edu.  Transcripts and recommendations ARE NOT REQUIRED.  The application deadline is February 15, 2011

Drama Club Presents: The Wizard of Oz

Student Fan Bus for Today's Quarterfinal Soccer Game

The Athletic Department is sponsoring a Student Bus to the State Quarterfinal Boys Soccer Game in Wilton TODAY.   If you are interested in riding, you must have permission from a parent (fax, phone, email) to AD James Day by 12:00 PM today.  Parents may call the AD at 860-828-6577 x181 or email at jday@berlinschools.org

The bus would leave at 2:30 PM  for the 4:00 PM Game.  If interest is insufficient, the bus will be cancelled, so get to the Main Office to sign up and ask a parent to phone, email or fax your permission to Mr. Day.

BHS Graduation Celebration - Parent Donations Requested

 BHS All Night Grad Party – Parent Donation Request   The Berlin High School Class of 2011 All Night Graduation Party Committee is asking that each Senior Family donate $50 to help offset the expense of the evening. This is not mandatory, and no child will be turned away; however, this event is very costly and we would appreciate all the support possible. BHS Grade 9/10 Parent Breakfast

Attention Parents of Grade 9 and 10 students:

On Friday, November 19, 2010 the BHS School Counseling Dept. will be holding a Grade 9 and 10 Parent Breakfast.  Information did go out into the Berlin Citizen and the New Britain Herald.  The breakfast will be held in the BHS cafeteria from 8am - 9am.  The school counselors will give an informative presentation on our comprehensive curricular program, our evening events, CAPT and PSAT testing, and other important information to assist your student in their four year plans.  Please come and join us!  If you could RSVP by contacting either Mrs. Pacyna at 860-828-6577 X158 or Deb Ramirez at 860-828-6577 X163.

BHS-New Britain Football Game

Date:  Wed, 11/24/2010 - 6:30pm The Annual Wishbone Bowl Football game between Berlin and New Britain will take place on Wed. Nov. 24 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in New Britain.  Tickets go on sale Monday, Nov. 15 in the main office of Berlin High School.  Tickets purchased before the date of the game will be $8 for Adults, $5 for senior citizens and students.   To be considered as a student, you must be attending the 1st through 12th grade.
All tickets purchased at the gate are $8 - no discounts for Students or Senior Citizens.

UNITED STATES JCI SENATE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP


The US JCI Senate Foundation has two scholarships they award to CT high school seniors.  The deadline for this scholarship is JANUARY 7, 2011.  Please see http://ctjcisenate.org/ctcisenate-scholarship_info.htm and download the application if you are interested.



HOOD GOOD SPORT SCHOLARSHIP

Hood LLC will award three $5,000 scholarships to students in each of the six New England states.  They are looking for seniors who participated in a varsity sport and will be continuing their education at a 2 or 4 year accredited college or university.  The candidate  must have a 3.0 GPA or higher and have performed  volunteer work in the community.

New Extended Y-Period Schedule to Start 11/11/10

 Based on feedback by the BHS community, a new schedule for Thursdays was developed, featuring a longer activity period.  The new schedule is posted on the Bell Schedule Link of the Main Menu.  This schedule will be piloted for the next four weeks to see how it will run before it is made permanent.

Bill's Pizza Night to Support BHS Band

SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE BHS BAND   and the Band Parents Assoc. and help offset the cost of the "2011" Band trip to Orlando, Florida !!

BILL'S PIZZA on Farmington Ave.  -  Treat yourself and your family to a night out for dinner (eat in or take out).  Tuesday Nov.16th from 4pm to 8pm at Bill's Pizza.  Be sure to leave your receipt in the Jar at Bill's Pizza.  20% of the earnings that evening will be donated to the Band Parents Association and will directly off set the total cost of the Fla. Band  trip.

Berlin SEPTA Presents "A Mock PPT"

Date:  Tue, 11/16/2010 - 7:00pm  The Berlin Special Education Teacher Association (SEPTA) presents “A Mock PPT” moderated by Kevin Daly, President of the Connecticut Special Education Parent Teacher Associationon November 16, 2010, 7 P.M in the Berlin High School Media Center, 139 Patterson Way, Berlin, CT.  The mock PPT will feature a panel of parents who will role play a PPT meeting about a student with ADHD.  Free information on PPT’s and special education will be available.  There is no charge for this presentation.  Contact armstronglm@hotmail.com or view berlinsepta.webs.com for further information.
